The process is identical to the Surf plug-in, except that the volume of the post-sweep silence is « looped » back to the start of the Surf so that it doesn’t repeat immediately. If you want to generate the pre-surf « hissing » effect, you can use the Surf plug-in after it has been run (see step 1 above), and then you can fade the volume back down to 0 over the duration of the Surf.

Nowak’s music is like ambient odyssey, like music to be driven with the eyes. He can create very dramatic, emotionally charged pieces or instruments he made that is almost ambient. He plays the flute or the English horn, and he uses very melodic music and a little bit of jazz improvisation. He can make anything sound very beautiful. Mike was also very gifted on the electronics, and he had a huge library of instruments and effects already set up in his computer. The « Electronic Ambience Mix » on the Oxygene CD was made by Mike Nowak.
This is a very detailed program, and it’s certainly worth the time spent reading through the help file. If you want to know how it works, it’s a complicated process, but the details are explained. It should work on Windows 98/ME, 2000/XP, and Vista.
The « Nyquist » error message means that your computer’s audio interface doesn’t support « complex » audio, or that it doesn’t support the maximum number of open audio channels specified in the parameter « playback ». If this happens, don’t panic. Open Audacity, and open up your audio interface and tell it to use a buffer size of at least 0. This should clear the error message.
Now you’re ready to start surfing. The process of surfing is detailed in step 2 above. Make sure you use at least a 64-byte audio sample buffer and set your « playback » and « playback channel count » to maximum (the number of audio channels available for playback). When you surf, set the « playback stereo spread » value to 100 percent (or -100 percent if generating mono).

Use this to make a selection into an undoable group.

He tried his hand at a generation program that turned out to be unexpectedly popular, and has produced several albums of his own music, most of which have been released on vinyl record. He’s also a passionate vinyl record collector.

Alchemy Ozone 1 v1.3.1 is now available! Alchemy Ozone is a second-person fantasy gaming audio engine from my game, The Great Wheel of Time. It places your avatar in a fully navigable virtual 3D environment, with real-time gameplay. There are different game play modes. There are many quests and puzzles to solve, from finding ingredients to decrypting codes. There are two game options; one for beginners to game and one for those already familiar with game play. Alchemy Ozone is compatible with most VR systems. It was originally designed as a VR game, but the gameplay is still the same and the immersion is far greater. This is also a great audio experiment that I put in place to test my narrative designs and immersion capabilities. Enjoy!

A stereo surf sound, generated by repeated sweeping the volume of one channel down or up and pausing. This sound will fade-in or fade-out as specified.
Solo, remix or patch:
To solo this track, first select the Track menu (not the menu above) and click « Save as ». In the resulting dialog box, choose a file name, a location on your hard drive, a folder and a file format. Then click « OK ». The new track should be placed in the same window where you made the « Save as » selection.
To patch this track to a groove, first select the « Apply automation » tool on the Groove menu. Then drag the automation points to the beginning of the song (the first time the track plays), or to the first note of the song, or some other appropriate place. When you’re happy with the automation levels, click « OK ». The automation points move into the groove, and « Apply automation » should now be greyed out. Click on « Update volume ». Now the volume curve has been dragged into the groove, and the automation levels will stay until you manually update them.
SoundEdit:
SoundEdit is a free cross-platform audio editing tool for Windows, Mac and Linux which is fast, intuitive and easy to use. Simply drag your sample or MP3 file into the program’s main window and a lot of the editing process is done for you, letting you focus on the music. You can have multiple tracks, arrange and edit samples in different ways and apply plug-ins.
Installation:
Download and unzip SoundEdit to your hard drive. Go to Start > Programs > SoundEdit 7.5 (or SoundEdit 1.5 in pre-1.5 versions of SoundEdit). Click « SoundEdit Icon ». This will start the program. Click « Read me » and « Exit ». Click « OK » and then « Install ». SoundEdit should now start automatically every time you double-click the SoundEdit Icon. Oxygene (Oxygen generator) is a real-time electrochemical oscillator. Sounds produced by Oxygene are wavetable and don’t have any samples in them. Effects can be applied, and several input parameters can be controlled, but the sweep is the only sound output and it has a fixed number of oscillation cycles.
The Surf parameter is a slider which varies in pitch between +100 cents to -100 cents. Each time the value changes, the Surf parameter will generate a new wave-table pattern.
The Surf ‘Effect’ parameter allows you to specify a frequency of noise and, optionally, to control the rate of the sweep in hertz. The more cycles the Sweep parameter specifies, the more shallow the sweep will be.
You can choose from four different Sweeps:
a) White Noise
b) Pink Noise
c) Pink Noise with Noise
d) Pure Pink Noise
Each of these sweeps has a different pitch and duration.
The first time the Surf parameter is set to White Noise, the Sweep will be set to 1 cycle and the Surf Effect to a frequency of 10 Hz. The rate of the sweep will be 1 cycle per second.
When the Surf parameter is set to White Noise and the Sweep parameter set to 2 cycles, the Surf Effect will be set to a frequency of 20 Hz, the sweep rate to 1 cycle per second, and the post-sweep silence duration to 50 milliseconds.
When the Surf parameter is set to White Noise and the Sweep parameter set to 3 cycles, the Surf Effect will be set to a frequency of 30 Hz, the sweep rate to 1 cycle per second, and the post-sweep silence duration to 20 milliseconds.
When the Surf parameter is set to White Noise and the Sweep parameter set to 4 cycles, the Surf Effect will be set to a frequency of 40 Hz, the sweep rate to 1 cycle per second, and the post-sweep silence duration to 10 milliseconds.
When the Surf parameter is set to White Noise and the Sweep parameter set to 5 cycles, the Surf Effect will be set to a frequency of 50 Hz, the sweep rate to 1 cycle per second, and the post-sweep silence duration to 5 milliseconds.
