Hi Garry, I haven’t tried your game, but its website is like something I would be interested in as a download. I’m sure you’re getting a lot of requests for your game, so it’s not much but if you ever get a chance to change the « Game » tab on the website to « Download » – that would be much appreciated.

I hadn’t thought about that before, but you’re right. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yeah there’s more. I might be able to answer some of those as well. I’m not sure if anyone has tried the game yet.

My development process is to develop and present a prototype as quick as possible to get feedback, then tweak and polish. Usually by the time my budget allows for a full-fledged project, the prototype (or something that is identical in core mechanics) is ready.

With Battle Group 2 I took the prototype to the IGF Contest finals. Of the three games I had at the time, Battle Group 2 had the best reception and therefore was selected as the title for the IGF Contest. The IGF Judges were actually pretty excited about the game because it did everything they were looking for in an IGF title. The demo was bigger than the others but that’s why it was missing some features. It had 70+ missions, more than any other game at the time. (I think there may be about 20-25 now.) A lot of the missions are based on actual events, including the Battle of the Atlantic, The Gulf War, and the Battle of Khafji. There was also commentary by Tom Clancy, who provided exclusive information about the military of the era.

My biggest issue was that it was too complex. I simply had to keep reworking everything to keep it simple. For example, the gameplay mechanics that I had in the prototype were way too confusing. It had dozens of menus and keys and was too confusing to be a quick mission

    Cowboy Escape Activator X64 (April-2022)

Your agency is practically a piece of fiction. Nobody knows it exists, nobody but you, and there is nobody else to report to, nobody to tell you if it works. So it’s up to you to decide what you want to create, and what you want your agency to be. In the end you can turn it into whatever you want.

Your agency is your reality. Real people like you (and even you, you know who you are) make this game real. It’s up to you to decide what that reality is going to be. What kind of world would you like to live in?

I’m having a really hard time imagining that the people running an agency of international spies, much less one that used to be the best in the world would want me to make something like this. There’s no use. There’s nothing here that you don’t know already, but you already know that, you just don’t like the choices.

The first thing that strikes me is that the game says it wants to be different, but it’s not. It’s the same game. It’s simple, it’s easy, it has no replay value, and it has the same old same old in the same old places. I won’t waste more time on this.

When I said that this review was long overdue, I didn’t mean to take up that much time. I’ve always been a fast, but a very inconsistent writer, and I can’t say I’ve been particularly consistent this year.

I really wanted to take a good look at this game, and it was hard not to. Games are like books and movies, only they’re better, because books don’t have to stand on their own and movies aren’t supposed to be great.

My review of Fallen London is coming up soon, and will be going into more depth than this review. After that, I’ll be moving onto reviews of other games.

As a writer, this is the kind of review that makes you proud of yourself. I’m not trying to rewrite the rulebook of literary fiction. There
