The GFAS program is a complete code package which can do structural analysis of uni-axial compression, triaxial compression and three types of soil-structure interaction of multiaxial compression, multiaxial traction and shear.

What is the reason to make a function non-member if it never access to member variables?

I am using some C++ code in a project that made me wonder. All functions were declared as non-member and in this project, there are no examples of pure virtual functions being made a member function, and also no pure virtual function and only data member is exposed as friend.
I understand that pure virtual functions are good because they make sure that the class is always known from the outside, and that they allow client code to decide
